The Q1 2014 earnings report for advanced materials stock GT Advanced Technologies Inc (NASDAQ: GTAT), a potential peer of stocks like Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW), UniPixel Inc (NASDAQ: UNXL) and Universal Display Corporation (NASDAQ: OLED), is due out after the market closes later today. Aside from the GT Advanced Technologies earnings report, it should be said that Corning Incorporated alreadyreported earnings on Monday, April 28 while UniPixel Inc and Universal Display Corporation are bothscheduled to release earnings after the market closes on Thursday. All of these stocks are interesting because all supply advanced materials to consumer electronics, mobile device, solar and organic light emitting diode (OLED) or light emitting diode (LED) makers.

Corning provides essential products used in the production process of smartphones, notebooks, tablets, and other related products to companies and consumers around the world. Samsung is reportedly set to purchase a large number of shares of the company. The stock has been moving higher and is currently trading at highs for the year. Over the last four quarters, earnings and revenue figures have increased, which has left investors pleased with the company. Relative to its peers and sector, Corning has been a weak year-to-date performer. Look for Corning to OUTPERFORM.

  • [By Chris Neiger] A bette! r bet for investors may not even be a typical technology company. Corning (NYSE: GLW  ) is the company behind Gorilla Glass, used by over 30 brands for smartphones, tablets, notebooks, TV and other devices. The company just came out with a new product called Willow Glass recently, which Corning says "has the potential to enable displays to be "wrapped" around a device or structure." That sounds like technology with smartwatch potential, but products with the new glass won't be available until at least 2016.
